Five LEGO bigfig characters we want included in rumoured 2023 sets

Forget tiny minifigures. What we want to see in rumoured LEGO sets for 2023 are more bigfigs, such as these five huge characters.

Bigfigs (or big figures) have appeared in a number of LEGO sets over the years, with the first larger-than-minifigure-sized character being the Rock Monster included with two Rock Raiders models in 1999.

Since then, bigfigs of numerous characters have made their debut in a multitude of LEGO themes such as Star Wars, Marvel, DC, Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings. We’ve seen the Hulk, Wampa, Green Goblin, Darkseid, Thanos and more pop culture icons towering over their minifigure counterparts, with even more existing in digital form only thanks to various LEGO video games.

With 2023 looming, here are five bigfig characters we’d like to see included as part of the current list of rumoured LEGO sets that may be arriving next year:

5 – Rancor

With Return of the Jedi celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2023, there are a couple of bulky creatures from Episode VI that would make excellent bigfigs. The first of these is the rancor, with a giant-sized version of the beast having previously appeared in 75005 Rancor Pit. Recent rumours suggest we may get to see three new LEGO Star Wars dioramas arriving next year, with 75352 Jabba’s Palace Diorama potentially being an ideal fit for an (albeit scaled-down version) of the crime lord’s favourite pet.

4 – Kingpin

Although the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series isn’t due to premiere until 2024, there’s no reason why we couldn’t get to see a dedicated LEGO Marvel set featuring the comic book characters much sooner. The only Daredevil minifigure released to date is included with 76178 Daily Bugle and Matt Murdock’s nemesis, Wilson Fisk, has never been recreated in bigfig form.

Although none of the current line-up of rumoured LEGO Marvel sets for 2023 would appear to offer an opportunity for the character to appear just yet, we’d still like to see a classic version of the Kingpin in his trademark white suit at some point.

3 – Cave Troll

A recent rumour points to the LEGO Group potentially revisiting The Lord of the Rings franchise in 2023, with the possibility of at least four sets due for release. Although only three BrickHeadz models and a D2C build are currently said to be on the way, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for more detailed sets similar to 9473 The Mines of Moria, which released in 2012.

Included with the brick-built recreation of the iconic movie scene was an impressive Cave Troll bigfig, with a snow-troll recently appearing in Amazon’s current The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series. An updated bigfig version of the creature would be a welcome addition to the any Middle Earth fan’s LEGO collection.

2 – Venom

It’s hard to believe we’ve yet to receive a bigfig version of Spider-Man’s symbiote foe, despite a bulked-up digital iteration of Venom having appeared in the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 video game. Larger versions of the character have appeared in such sets as 76115 Spider Mech vs. Venom and 30448 Spider-Man Vs. The Venom Symbiote, but there’s been no dedicated bigfig interpretation so far.

The closest we’ve come is 76230 Venom Figure, with the buildable figure released earlier last month. Three Spidey and his Amazing Friends sets are rumoured to be arriving in March 2023, so there’s certainly plenty of scope for a bigfig Venom to be included in at least one of them.

1 – Jabba the Hutt

If the rumoured 75352 Jabba’s Palace Diorama does arrive as part of Return of the Jedi’s 40th anniversary next year, then an updated version of the Hutt gangster bigfig is surely a must. Previous versions of the character have appeared in 4480 Jabba’s Palace, 6210 Jabba’s Sail Barge, 9516 Jabba’s Palace and 75020 Jabba’s Sail Barge.

Although the latter two sets offered the most authentic versions of the crime lord to date, there’s always room for improvement in terms of detail, functionality and poseability. 75352 Jabba’s Palace Diorama could therefore be the perfect opportunity to offer fans the most accurate interpretation of the vile Hutt to date.
