Prequel sets are more common in LEGO Star Wars in 2023

LEGO Star Wars prequel sets are unlikely to be as common as those for the original trilogy, but the current array of builds has more than you’d think.

Recently, 75349 Captain Rex Helmet and 75350 Clone Commander Cody Helmet were revealed, bringing two fan-favourite characters to life as part of the LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection.

Though they’ll be joined by a third helmet based on the original trilogy on March 1, they’re just the latest in a relatively big selection of currently available LEGO Star Wars sets based on the prequel films, a category of models that in previous years have been rare.

At the time of writing on the official online store, out of a total of 54 LEGO Star Wars sets available for purchase, 10 are based on the prequel trilogy. That’s almost one-fifth of the current portfolio and includes helmets, BrickHeadz, Ultimate Collectors Series sets and models inspired by series in the prequel era too. It’s by no means an even split but it’s larger than previous ranges thanks to multiple recent waves.

This may be in response to 75309 Republic Gunship, where designers explained that sales of the set could give the LEGO Star Wars design team an excuse to make more prequel sets.

Both 75349 Captain Rex Helmet and 75350 Clone Commander Cody Helmet are the only LEGO Star Wars Helmets based on the prequels, adding another category to the list of prequel sets. One of the only areas that prequel models have yet to debut in is the LEGO Star Wars Diorama Collection and they’re not entirely off the table in the future.

For now, you can look forward to the launch of 75349 Captain Rex Helmet and 75350 Clone Commander Cody Helmet on March 1, 2023. We’ve got a video guide to these sets that you can watch by clicking here or reviews both helmets to read here and here
