Five epic Lord of the Rings structures we want in LEGO

With rumours flying about a possible LEGO Lord of the Rings return, we couldn’t help but wonder how far $500 could go.

More details on the rumoured fourth set, in a potential 2023 LEGO Lord of the Rings wave are continuing the reports that it could be an enormous set, worth $500. The last time we got a direct-to-consumer model, it was 10237 Tower of Orthanc, so it could well be that another major LOTR structure is on its way.

We thought we would break down some epic Tolkien locations that we would love to see in bricks. Plus, brush up on everything we’ve heard so far about this potential revival of the theme.

5 – Rivendell

Arguably one of the loveliest Elvish cities, Rivendell could work beautifully in a set of a similar style to 71043 Hogwarts Castle, in minute detail and as if seen from afar. The rushing waterfalls and lush greenery make for a gorgeous setting and seeing the Elvish architecture recreated in LEGO bricks would be a definite plus.

However, larger structures in recent years from the LEGO Group have been more focused on one element, such as 76178 Daily Bugle or even 10307 Eiffel Tower. These sets prefer instead to focus on one building, so if that could be a sign of what’s to come for LEGO Lord of the Rings.

4 – Barad-dûr and the Tower of Orthanc

We’ve already seen the Tower of Orthanc in 10237 Tower of Orthanc but for more than double the price of the original $199.99 set, 10316 should be more than twice as good. So perhaps two towers – or even Twin Towers?

Having a dual set of both Barad-dûr and the Tower of Orthanc would certainly one up the earlier waves of LEGO Lord of the Rings. Bonus points if there’s extra scenery from the surrounding area of Isengard and Mordor as well.

3 – The Shire

Another more scenic rather than structural option would be the Shire. For $500, we could get a full landscape of Hobbiton’s rolling hills, complete with interactive hobbit holes tucked away underneath. Fill it out with plenty of hobbit minifigures and we would be throwing our money at the LEGO Group.

2 – The Black Gate

The epic climax of the original Lord of the Rings trilogy takes place inn front of the Black Gate. With its spiked towers and rigid walls, it would make for an impressive sight to behold in any collection.

Plus, you could add to the spectacle with a miniature version of Mount Doom to display in the background as Sam and Frodo make their intrepid final climb.

1 – Minas Tirith

Saving the best for the last, this is where we would be placing our money if we were betting: Minas Tirith. The towering city is glorious in the films and has already gained 10,000 supporters from LEGO Ideas, so it could well be on its way.

With its circular streets climbing up to the glowing tower in the Citadel of Gondor, this would surely be the crowning glory of any LEGO Lord of the Rings display. Here’s hoping the rumours prove to be true and we see the white bricks of Minas Tirith in LEGO format some time next year…
