It sounds like LEGO Star Wars battle packs are about to get even more expensive

LEGO Star Wars battle packs shot up in price in January 2022 – but it sounds like they’re about to get even more expensive this summer.

The LEGO Group put the concept of LEGO Star Wars battle packs on hiatus in 2021, following the debut of 75280 501st Legion Clone Troopers – a supersized take on the format – in August 2020. When they returned in 2022 with 75320 Snowtrooper Battle Pack, they came with a price hike, now retailing for £17.99 / $19.99 / €19.99.

We’ve seen the same price point – which represents a £5 / $5 / €5 increase on 2020’s 75267 Mandalorian Battle Pack and 75266 Sith Troopers Battle Pack – applied to this year’s 75345 501st Clone Troopers Battle Pack. But if the rumour mill is to be believed, it sounds like we’re already in for another dramatic price increase for the battle pack format.

You might not have noticed from the initial rumour reports, because the culprit here isn’t explicitly labelled a ‘battle pack’. We’re talking specifically about 75359 Republic Swamp Speeder, which is currently rumoured to include 108 pieces, Captain Vaughn and three 332nd Company Clone Troopers.

That minifigure line-up and piece count puts the Clone Wars model squarely in battle pack territory. But the price attached to the set is a blistering €26.99, or a full €7 more than the RRP of 75320 Snowtrooper Battle Pack and 75345 501st Clone Troopers Battle Pack. And given the tiny number of pieces and focus on readily-amassable troops, this is a battle pack in all but name.

So, is it a battle pack price increase by stealth? That’s one option. Or it might be that the final product name – the current title is only a rumour, after all – is indeed 75359 332nd Clone Troopers Battle Pack, and the LEGO Group is content to brazenly bump up the price of what should be a pocket money-priced set.

We aren’t likely to find out for sure until the LEGO Group officially unveils its Star Wars summer 2023 line-up, but while the minifigures reportedly included in 75359 Republic Swamp Speeder sound great – we haven’t seen a 332nd Company Clone Trooper since 2020’s 75283 Armored Assault Tank (AAT) – we may have to pay a pretty steep price for them.

For now, chalk this one up as another rumour to take lightly. Even if the set does exist, details can always change – and we may end up with a supersized battle pack on the same level as 75280 501st Legion Clone Troopers. Something to consider before grabbing the pitchforks, anyway…

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
